Smiths Enfield Art Deco Mantel Clock
Restored English mechanical mantel clock in period Bakelite case
A handsome vintage Smiths Enfield mechanical mantel clock, presented in a rich dark-brown Bakelite case with classic Art Deco lines, chrome-plated bezel and a beautifully understated silvered dial.
The clock has been carefully dismantled, cleaned, serviced and tested before sale. Its traditional English movement operates the timekeeping and strike functions, sounding on the coiled gong housed inside the case.
The gently arched case has been polished to a deep, glossy finish, displaying attractive tonal variation beneath the surface. The restrained numeral design, decorative black hands and bright chrome bezel give the clock a wonderfully authentic period appearance.
The Maker: Smiths Enfield
Smiths Enfield clocks were made for the British home and remain admired for their dependable movements, strong period styling and unmistakably English character. This example is indicative of the marque's 1930s Art Deco output, based on its case styling and movement type; exact dating has not been confirmed from a case stamp or backplate.
This restored example would make an excellent addition to an Art Deco interior, traditional sitting room, study, office or vintage clock collection.
