Vintage Enfield Mantel Clock Art Deco Gong Strike Fully Serviced Working
Enfield Art Deco Walnut Mantel Clock
Eight-Day Striking Movement
A handsome British interwar mantel clock, fully dismantled, ultrasonically cleaned and professionally restored — running, striking and ready for the mantelpiece.
Dating from the 1930s, this is a classic example of the British Art Deco mantel clock at its most characterful. The arched walnut veneered case, stepped pillar sides, convex bevelled glass and silvered open-work chapter ring combine to create a silhouette that is instantly recognisable as interwar British design. Enfield was one of the most respected names in British domestic clockmaking of the period, and this example shows why — the quality of the dial in particular, with its elegantly cut numerals against a warm walnut ground, lifts it well above the ordinary.

Condition
The case presents very well overall, with a rich warm patina and only light age-related marks consistent with a genuine 1930s clock. The walnut veneer is in good condition; there is one small chip to the veneer at the lower front edge, which is only apparent on close inspection and does not detract from the clock at normal viewing distance. It has been noted in full in the interest of transparency.
The dial is clean and characterful, the chapter ring retains excellent definition, and the hands are original and undamaged. The chrome bezel and convex glass are clean and bright. The movement is clean, running steadily and striking reliably on the gong.
This is a sympathetically conserved example, not an over-restored one. Originality has been preserved throughout.
