Smiths Enfield Mayflower Mantel Clock – Fully Serviced by Mahn & Co Clock Repair
Smiths Enfield "Mayflower" Mantel Clock
Clean Mid-Century Lines, Properly Brought Back to Life
This Smiths Enfield mantel clock, known as the "Mayflower", is a lovely example of Smiths' clean-lined early 1950s designs. The cube-shaped case pairs a lighter figured wood veneer to the front with darker side panels, giving the clock a distinctive two-tone look. A brass bezel with convex glass frames a bronze-toned dial with applied gilt Arabic numerals and elegant leaf-style hands, printed "SMITHS ENFIELD".
Inside is a genuine Smiths Enfield eight-day twin-train movement, striking the hours and half-hours on a coiled gong. The movement is marked "Smiths English Clocks Ltd" and "Made in Great Britain", confirming genuine origin.
This is proper mid-century charm without trying too hard, and it's had the full Mahn & Co treatment so it's ready to go straight onto your mantelpiece.
Smiths Enfield
Smiths English Clocks Ltd of Enfield were Britain's leading clock manufacturer through the mid twentieth century, producing millions of dependable clocks for homes across the country. The Mayflower's clean cube case and contrasting veneers reflect the shift toward simpler, more modernist styling in Smiths' early 1950s output, a move away from the more ornate napoleon's hat and lancet cases of earlier decades.
Fully Serviced & Running Beautifully
This movement has been fully stripped to component level, cleaned, and rebuilt using Novostar oil on the mainsprings and synthetic clock oil on the pivots. It was then bench tested over several days to confirm reliable timekeeping and a clean, correct strike before being offered for sale.
The coiled gong sounds clearly on the hours and half-hours. Wind it, set it going, and it will do exactly what it should.

Honest Assessment — This One Presents Well
Case: The case has been sympathetically cleaned and waxed, retaining its original character and vintage finish. There is light age-related wear and small areas of cosmetic marking consistent with age, but the figuring to the front presents beautifully.
Dial and bezel: The dial, gilt numerals and leaf-style hands display well. The brass bezel and convex glass are both in good order.
Movement: Fully serviced by Mahn & Co. Running well and keeping good time. Strike is functioning correctly on the hours and half-hours. Ready to use immediately on arrival.
