Large Antique Junghans Mantel Clock Carved Oak Time Only c1910
Antique Junghans Carved Oak
Time-Only Mantel Clock
Junghans · Germany · Early 20th Century
A substantial and richly carved antique mantel clock by the celebrated German maker Junghans, its seven-pointed star trademark stamped clearly on the movement backplate. Dating from the early 20th century, the clock is housed in a striking architectural oak case with a domed, arched pediment carved with a stylised pineapple motif flanked by scrollwork, and turned, leaf-carved columns framing the glazed door.
Standing a generous 40cm tall, the case has real presence, its deep, warm oak tone and crisply defined carving giving it a wonderful country-house character. Please refer to the photographs for a true impression of the case finish and condition.
Case
The case is a fine example of the architectural styling popular in quality German clocks of the period, its domed pediment, fluted plinth and carved corner columns lending it an almost bracket-clock presence for a mantel piece. The front opens on a glazed hinged door to allow access for winding and adjustment.
Dial
Behind the glazed door sits an attractive gilt brass dial with bold black Arabic numerals, ornate pierced corner spandrels and shaped steel hands. An unused winding aperture remains visible on the dial, a legacy of the clock's original configuration as a two-train striking clock. This is part of the clock's genuine history and is clearly shown in the photographs.
Movement
The clock is powered by a traditional spring driven pendulum movement and now runs as a time-only clock. It was originally built as a two-train striking movement, but at some point in its history the strike train, hammer and gong were removed, leaving a quiet timepiece ideal for anyone who loves the character of an antique mechanical clock without the hourly or half-hourly chime. The Junghans star trademark is clearly stamped on the movement backplate, confirming the maker.
The Mahn & Co. Service
Every clock we offer is fully stripped down before sale, never simply wound and listed. This one has been dismantled, ultrasonically cleaned, inspected, reassembled and correctly lubricated using Novostar oil on the mainspring and synthetic clock oil on the pivots, before regulation and multi-day bench testing. It is currently running and keeping good time for an antique mechanical clock.

Condition
This is an original mechanical clock and displays the expected signs of previous ownership, including minor marks, surface wear and small knocks around the case and plinth, along with visible age related patina and wear to the dial. These details have been preserved rather than heavily refinished, allowing the clock to retain its authentic antique character. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
