Vintage English Oak Mantel Clock

Fully Serviced • Twin-Train Gong Striking Movement

Walter is a proper English mantel clock: broad-shouldered, dependable and completely uninterested in modern trends. His oak case has been sympathetically revived rather than scrubbed of its history, while his fully serviced twin-train movement is back to keeping time and sounding the hours on a traditional coiled gong.

The sweeping oak case has been carefully cleaned, revived and waxed, bringing out its rich colour and natural grain while retaining the character expected from a genuine vintage clock. Its classic shape and warm finish make it an impressive piece for a mantelpiece, sideboard or traditional interior.

The Movement

The British-made mechanical movement is marked “Made in England” and is operated through two winding points on the dial. One train powers the timekeeping mechanism, while the second operates the striking mechanism, sounding the hours and half-hours on a traditional coiled gong.

The movement has been fully dismantled and professionally serviced. This included cleaning the individual components, inspecting the movement, cleaning the pivot holes, servicing and lubricating the mainsprings with Novostar oil, careful reassembly, lubricating the pivots with synthetic clock oil, and final adjustment. The clock has subsequently been tested for reliable operation.

Dial and Case

The silvered dial features elegant black Roman numerals, a traditional outer minute track and dark metal hands. It sits behind a hinged brass-tone bezel with convex glass.

The dial and bezel retain visible age-related marks, tarnishing and surface wear, as clearly shown in the photographs. These have deliberately not been over-restored and give the clock an honest, authentic appearance.

The oak case presents extremely well following sympathetic restoration. As an original vintage item, it retains occasional small marks, minor veneer chips consistent with age and normal wear, and other minor imperfections around the case and fittings. Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the description.

Condition

This is a restored and fully serviced vintage clock rather than a modern reproduction. It remains in very good presentational condition for its age while retaining genuine signs of its history. The most noticeable cosmetic wear is to the silvered dial and bezel, together with smaller marks, minor veneer chips and other imperfections around the wooden case.

Mechanical clocks may require a small adjustment after transportation and settling into their new position. Straightforward setup and regulation guidance will be supplied, and after-sales help is always available if required.
