Smiths Enfield Westminster Mantel Clock 1951 8 Day 5 Rod Chime Serviced Mahogany
SMITHS ENFIELD WESTMINSTER CHIME MANTEL CLOCK
Circa early-to-mid 1950s · Napoleon hat case · Triple-train Westminster chime
Overview
A handsome vintage Smiths Enfield Westminster chime mantel clock, presented in a traditional mahogany-finished Napoleon hat case. This is a particularly attractive example, with a beautifully figured wooden dial carrying applied gilt Roman numerals, ornate period hands, and a polished brass bezel with convex glass. The book-matched grain gives the dial a rich, distinctive appearance.
Movement & Chime
Fitted with its original British-made Smiths Enfield movement, backplate-stamped "Smiths Enfield, Made in Gt. Britain, The Enfield Clock Co. Ltd." The clock plays the traditional Westminster melody on a bank of chime rods at each quarter, followed by the correct number of hour strikes. Three separate winding points power the timekeeping, chime, and hour strike trains, with a chime selection and silence control positioned beside the III.
Restoration
- Movement fully dismantled, cleaned, and inspected
- Pivots lubricated with synthetic clock oil, mainsprings with Novostar oil
- Reassembled, tested, and regulated for accurate timekeeping
- Case sympathetically cleaned and revived, retaining original character
Condition
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. As expected of a clock of this age, there is light general wear consistent with years of use and display. The hour hand is missing its tip, visible in the photographs.
