David Peterson DP/BT Boîte 8 Day Mechanical Carriage Clock 11 Jewel Serviced
Vintage David Peterson DP/BT Boîte Carriage Clock
Solid Brass • Eight-Day Mechanical Movement • 11-Jewel Platform Escapement
A handsome vintage David Peterson DP/BT Boîte carriage clock, presented in a substantial solid-brass case with a traditional curved cornice, stepped base and carrying handle.
The clean white dial is signed “David Peterson England”, with black Roman numerals and elegant moon-style hands. Five bevelled glass panels — including the glazed top and hinged rear door — allow the movement to be viewed from every angle, and the rear door opens to reveal the platform escapement and a fast/slow regulation dial.
About David Peterson
David Peterson was the premium mechanical-clock marque of Reading-based English clockmaker Weiss Clocks. The name was reserved for the company's more expensive eight-day mechanical clocks, while quartz models generally carried the Weiss name. The business was restructured as David Peterson Clocks in 1996 and continues to produce traditional solid-brass carriage clocks today.
The Movement
The solid-brass movement runs for approximately eight days from a full wind and incorporates an 11-jewel, shock-protected platform escapement, visible through the bevelled top glass. This is a time-only clock — reliable mechanical timekeeping without striking or chiming. The clock is supplied with its original key, used for both winding the movement and setting the time.
Restoration & Condition
The clock has been dismantled, cleaned, serviced and tested by Mahn & Co, with Novostar oil applied to the mainspring and synthetic clock oil to the pivots. The movement is running well and the brass case retains its rich golden finish along with minor signs of age and previous ownership.
The dial remains clean and the bevelled glass panels present well. As with any vintage clock, close inspection may reveal occasional light marks consistent with age — please study all photographs, which form an important part of the description.
