Antique Richard & Co Paris Carriage Clock

French Eight-Day Timepiece • Circa 1900

✓ Fully Serviced ✓ Maker Confirmed ✓ Tested Before Listing ✓ 30-Day Returns

A particularly attractive antique French carriage clock made by Richard & Co. of Paris, one of the recognised makers associated with the golden age of French carriage-clock production.

The polished brass case is fitted with five bevelled glass panels and an unusually decorative shaped carrying handle. Its most distinctive feature is the pale mint-green full-height dial, with individually outlined Arabic numerals and delicate painted minute decorations. This gives the clock far more character than the conventional circular or plain white carriage-clock dial.

Maker

The rear plate carries the maker's oval stamp:

Movement

The clock contains its original French mechanical eight-day, time-only movement with a balance-wheel escapement. It is wound and the hands are adjusted from the rear using the supplied double-ended key.

The movement has been carefully stripped, cleaned and serviced, with Novostar oil applied to the mainsprings and synthetic clock oil to the pivots. It is running well and has been tested before listing.

Restoration Checklist

  • Movement stripped, cleaned and serviced
  • Mainsprings lubricated with Novostar oil
  • Pivots lubricated with synthetic clock oil
  • Case cleaned and polished
  • Tested and running before listing

Condition

The brass case has been carefully cleaned and polished, presenting beautifully while retaining minor evidence of its considerable age.

The dial remains extremely attractive but shows some age-related marks and small areas of wear, particularly around its outer edges. The bevelled glass panels are intact, with minor scratches and surface marks visible on close inspection. The case also displays occasional small marks consistent with an antique clock dating from around the turn of the 20th century.

Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
