Meet Beatrice
Beatrice is a handsome antique mantel clock retailed by the renowned London jeweller and clock retailer Bravington's Ltd, whose name appears proudly on the original silvered dial.
Dating from approximately the late 1920s to early 1930s, Beatrice is housed in an elegant arched mahogany case decorated with fine geometric stringing and stylised floral inlay. The sweeping architectural shape, warm timber and bold period numerals give the clock considerable presence without appearing overly ornate.
Fully Serviced Mechanical Movement
The traditional eight-day mechanical movement has been carefully dismantled, cleaned and inspected. Two brand new mainsprings have been fitted, oiled with Novostar oil, with synthetic clock oil applied to the pivots, before the movement was reassembled, regulated and tested.
The clock is wound through the dial using the supplied key and strikes the number of hours on a substantial coiled gong. This produces a warm, resonant tone very different from the electronic sound of a modern reproduction.
The pendulum has been correctly matched and the clock carefully placed in beat for dependable timekeeping. As with any genuine mechanical clock, a small amount of regulation may occasionally be required after transportation and settling into its new home.

Bravington's of London
Bravington's was a prestigious London jeweller and retailer known for supplying quality watches, clocks, jewellery and presentation pieces. Its name on the dial gives Beatrice an appealing connection to London's historic retail and horological heritage.
The inside of the rear door also retains its original Bravington's Ltd operating and regulation instruction label, listing the firm's former King's Cross and Brompton Road premises: a lovely surviving detail that adds both interest and provenance.
Sympathetically Restored Case
The mahogany case has been carefully cleaned and sympathetically restored by hand to revive the richness and depth of the timber while preserving the character developed during almost a century of use.
Fine decorative stringing follows the sweeping outline of the case, while attractive floral inlays flank the dial. The surviving period finish retains natural variations, small marks and gentle wear rather than having been stripped and made artificially new.

Delivery
