Three-Train K6A Movement Silvered Roman Dial Westminster Quarters + Strike Dated March 1954

Meet Marjorie, a handsome British Smiths Westminster chiming mantel clock dating from March 1954.

With her broad arched case, warm contrasting veneers and beautifully restrained silvered Roman numeral dial, Marjorie captures the transition between late Art Deco styling and the more traditional British interiors of the early 1950s.

Beneath the case is Smiths' respected K6A three-train mechanical movement, providing traditional Westminster quarter-hour chiming together with the correct hour strike.

Classic British 1950s Design

The case combines rich figured timber across the central arch with lighter contrasting vertical sections at either side, giving the clock an architectural quality that still owes much to the Art Deco period. Sweeping shoulders soften the profile and give Marjorie substantial presence without making her excessively large.

Silvered Roman Dial

The silvered dial is beautifully simple, with black Roman numerals, fine minute detailing and elegant pierced hands. Three winding apertures reveal the clock's traditional three-train construction for timekeeping, Westminster chiming and hour striking.

Please see photographs for full condition detail on the bezel.

Smiths K6A Movement

Marjorie is fitted with an original Smiths K6A three-train spring-driven movement, made in England. The movement is stamped K6A 543, confirmed via the backplate stamp and giving a production date of March 1954.

The movement has been cleaned, inspected and lubricated — Novostar oil to the mainsprings and synthetic clock oil to the pivots — with the Westminster chime sequence and hour strike checked before sale.

Westminster Chime

The traditional Westminster melody develops progressively through each quarter hour:

¼ hour – first Westminster phrase
½ hour – extended sequence
¾ hour – further extended sequence
Full hour – complete Westminster melody followed by the appropriate number of hour strikes

Condition & Restoration

The timber has been sympathetically cleaned and revived to bring back its warmth while preserving its age and character.

Please see photographs for full condition detail.

From the front, Marjorie presents very attractively and retains the mellow, authentic character expected of an original British clock from 1954.
