1930s English Art Deco Mantel Clock Gong Strike Fully Serviced Mechanical
1930s English Art Deco Mechanical Mantel Clock
Two-Train Movement · Resonant Gong Strike · Figured Veneer Dial Centre
A particularly attractive English Art Deco mantel clock dating from circa the 1930s, featuring a beautifully shaped veneered wooden case, mechanical two-train movement and resonant gong strike.
The clock has a wonderfully distinctive period design. The sweeping architectural case is complemented by a large circular dial with silvered chapter ring, elegant Art Deco Arabic numerals and pierced hands.
The centre of the dial is finished in beautifully figured, book-matched veneer, creating an especially attractive focal point. A polished metal bezel and glazed front door complete the classic interwar appearance.
Mechanical Movement & Gong Strike
The traditional English-made mechanical movement is a two-train design, with separate trains for timekeeping and striking.
The clock strikes on a substantial multi-coil gong mounted within the case, producing a rich and resonant tone. The movement and dial are both marked MADE IN ENGLAND.
The clock is pendulum regulated and is supplied with a suitable Smiths winding key. Please note that the key is a period-compatible replacement and is not represented as original to the clock.
