Pair Matthew Norman Miniature Swiss Carriage Clocks Boxed 1977 Serviced
Pair of Vintage Matthew Norman London Carriage Clocks
Original Presentation Case, Key & Dated 1977 Guarantee
A particularly attractive and unusual pair of vintage Matthew Norman mechanical carriage clocks, presented together with their original Matthew Norman book-form presentation case, winding key and original guarantee paperwork.
The surviving guarantee provides excellent provenance, recording the purchase on 3 December 1977 from Stevenson & Co., Jewellers, 67 High Street, Hemel Hempstead.
The two clocks are complementary rather than identical, comprising a traditional rectangular carriage clock alongside the considerably less common rounded or drum-form model. Together they make a superb decorative pair, especially striking when displayed with their original presentation case.
Round / Drum-Form Matthew Norman Clock
The more unusual of the two clocks has an elegant rounded brass case with curved bevelled glass panels, decorative folding carrying handle and a glazed top allowing the mechanical platform escapement to be viewed in operation. A glazed rear door gives access to the movement for winding and hand setting.

Rectangular Matthew Norman Carriage Clock
The second clock is a classic Matthew Norman carriage clock with polished brass case, bevelled glass panels, folding carrying handle and glazed top through which the platform escapement can be seen working. The rear glazed door provides access to the movement.

Condition & Servicing
Both clocks have been carefully serviced and are running well at the time of listing. The brass cases have been sympathetically cleaned and polished while retaining the character expected of genuine vintage pieces, with minor age-related marks consistent with clocks approaching fifty years old.
Importantly, the glass throughout both clocks is excellent, with no chips or cracks. The white Roman numeral dials remain very attractive, and both clocks retain their original mechanical character, including visible platform escapements beneath the top glasses.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
Original Presentation Set
What makes this pair particularly appealing is the accompanying Matthew Norman London book-form presentation case. Finished to resemble a large leather-bound volume with gilt decoration, it opens to accommodate both clocks and their accessories. The case itself shows age-related marks and wear, as would be expected from an original item of this age, but remains an important and highly attractive part of the set.
