A particularly attractive antique brass carriage clock, believed to date from the early 20th century.
This unusual example is distinguished by its beautifully decorated carrying handle, matching pierced corner galleries and ornate gilt dial centre. The white vitreous-enamel chapter ring features highly decorative Arabic numerals, minute markers and elegant dark steel hands.
The substantial eight-day, time-only movement is fitted with a quality jewelled lever platform escapement, visible through the oval bevelled glass in the top of the case. The movement is unsigned, and no speculative attribution to a particular manufacturer has been made.
Restoration and operation
The clock has been carefully dismantled, cleaned and serviced. The movement has been fully serviced, with Novostar oil applied to the mainspring and synthetic clock oil to the pivots. The brass case has been sympathetically restored and polished to reveal the intricate decoration on the handle and galleries, while retaining appropriate signs of age.
It is currently running well and is supplied with a suitable double-ended winding key. As with all antique mechanical clocks, occasional regulation may be required following transport and positioning.

Condition
Presented in very attractive restored condition and running at the time of listing. The enamel chapter ring is in excellent condition. The galleries and handle retain crisp, well-defined decoration.
The brass dial plate retains some historic spotting, surface marks and variation in finish. The case and movement also display normal signs of age and previous use. Please examine all photographs, which form an important part of the description.
