About This Clock
A charming antique French carriage clock presented in a traditional polished brass case with a folding carrying handle and five bevelled glass panels.
The white dial features bold black Roman numerals, an outer minute track and elegant black hands. The movement can be viewed through the side and rear glass, while the upper bevelled panel gives a clear view of the platform escapement in motion.
This is a time-only model, offering a clean and uncluttered design without a striking or alarm mechanism. Its compact proportions make it ideal for a bedside table, mantel, desk, display cabinet or collection of antique clocks.
No maker or retailer is identified on the dial or movement. This was not unusual for French carriage clocks, many of which were produced for retail through jewellers and clock dealers without being individually signed.
Restoration & Servicing
- The movement has been removed from the brass case.
- The mechanism has been cleaned, inspected and correctly lubricated, with Novostar oil applied to the mainspring and synthetic clock oil applied to the pivots.
- The wheel train and platform escapement have been checked for free operation.
- The movement has been reassembled and tested following servicing.

- The bevelled glass panels have been individually cleaned.
- The dial and hands have been gently cleaned while preserving their age and character.

Condition
The clock is presented in very attractive restored condition. The brass case has been carefully polished and displays a warm, bright finish while retaining the minor marks and surface character expected from an antique object.
The white dial remains clean and highly legible, with clear Roman numerals and a traditional outer minute track. The hands present well and complement the simple, elegant design.
The five bevelled glass panels are an important feature of the clock and allow the movement and platform escapement to be viewed from several angles.

Running & Timekeeping
Following its service, the clock has been bench tested and is running well. It will receive a further operational check immediately before dispatch.
Antique mechanical clocks are precision instruments but should not be expected to perform with the exact accuracy of a modern quartz clock. Minor variation in timekeeping is normal and can be influenced by temperature, position and whether the clock is standing perfectly level.
Winding & Setting
The clock is wound from the rear using the supplied key. Wind slowly and gently until firm resistance is felt, and never force the key beyond this point.
The hands are also adjusted from the rear using the appropriate setting square. Clear operating guidance will be included with the clock.
We recommend winding the clock on the same day each week and placing one hand lightly around the case while winding, to prevent unnecessary movement or pressure on the glass.
Age & Authenticity
This is a genuine antique mechanical carriage clock rather than a modern battery reproduction. Its traditional French movement, brass case construction, bevelled glazing and platform escapement are all characteristic of carriage clocks made during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
As the clock is unsigned, no attribution to a particular manufacturer or retailer has been made. It is described honestly according to its construction, appearance and mechanical features.
Secure Packing & Delivery
The clock will undergo a final pre-delivery inspection before being carefully prepared for dispatch.
It will be wrapped securely with generous protective materials and boxed with particular attention given to the brass case, bevelled glass panels and platform escapement.
A suitable key and basic setup guidance will be included. Tracking will be provided where available.
