Case

The case retains its original gilding, with a warm, softly aged finish and genuine patina and subtle colour variation across the brass. It has been sympathetically cleaned without removing the character acquired over many decades.

Movement & Restoration

The clock is fitted with a traditional mechanical time-only movement with a platform lever escapement, viewable through the oval top window. The movement has been fully dismantled, ultrasonically cleaned, inspected, reassembled and correctly lubricated. The platform escapement has also been carefully cleaned and serviced, and the clock has been bench tested for 7 days following restoration. It is currently running well and keeping good time. As with all antique mechanical clocks, minor variation may occur depending on temperature, position and handling during transit.

Restoration Checklist

  • Movement removed, dismantled and ultrasonically cleaned
  • Pivots inspected and correctly lubricated
  • Platform lever escapement cleaned and serviced
  • Reassembled and bench tested for accurate timekeeping before dispatch
  • Case sympathetically cleaned, retaining original patina
  • Glass panels checked and hinges/catches confirmed working
Please note: this is a mechanical, hand-wound clock and will require winding and setting up on arrival. Full winding and setting instructions are included.

Condition

  • Movement fully serviced and bench tested for 7 days, keeping good time on test
  • Platform escapement cleaned, serviced and viewable in operation through the top window
  • Case retains its original gilding with a warm, genuine aged patina and light historical wear
  • White enamel dial with blue Arabic numerals in good order
  • All five bevelled glass panels present and intact, with a slight nibble to the glass on one side panel – please refer to the photographs

This is an antique clock and therefore retains age-related wear, patina, light marks and variations to the brass finish consistent with its history. These details form part of its genuine character and have intentionally not been over-restored. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and clearly show the dial, case, glass and movement.
